Do you have to wear a uniform?
No. We want the children to feel they have autonomy over what they wear, to help make them feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible in order that they are able to enjoy their day as fully as possible. We do suggest some attire guidelines depending on the nature of the day i.e. Forest or Adventure and this will be shared in our Information Pack once your place has been confirmed.
In our experience, some children do like to wear a uniform of sorts which is perfectly fine. Our branded t-shirts have proved very popular as they are comfortable and practical and offer a sense of community and belonging. These can be purchased from our online shop.
Can I choose which Adventure Days my child attends or do we need to enroll for the whole term?
Enrollment is on a termly basis and so it is not possible to pick and choose Adventure Days. We truly believe that Adventure Days are not just about the specific activity on the day. They are about the day as a whole, offering valuable learning experiences from start to finish. We do, however, offer some trial adventure dates to offer your child a taste of how one of our regular adventures goes. Please see our section on Adventure Days.
Can I see the Adventure Schedule before I sign up?
We do not publish the schedule in advance for a couple of reasons but the main one being that we want parents to understand and be on board with our ethos of the value of adventure days as a whole and not just for the individual activities. Please see our section on Adventure Days.
Can I take my child directly to the forest site or do they need to be taken there via the minibus provision?
Parents are welcome to meet those traveling in the minibus (from Catford) at the meeting point of Skeet Hill House to enable all of the group to walk into the site together with the Forest School Lead. We discourage parents and children arriving at different times as this puts a strain on the focus of the forest team who need to be fully present.
What kind of adventures do you offer?
We try to offer as wide a range of adventures and experiences as possible. Some adventures make up part of our ‘core’ schedule. These are adventures where the children can develop skills learned and also where they are offering a contribution to the community i.e. horse riding, swimming, library and litter picking. Our children have the same teacher on the regular adventures enabling positive rapports and building on their skills and knowledge. We also believe that using public services such as libraries are vital for our communities.
Can I stay with my child for the duration of the day?
If we feel your child may need your support to settle into the environment or nature of the day, we would be happy for parents to stay. It does very much depend on the individual child and we would arrange to discuss their needs with you in the first instance.
Do you provide transportation for Forest and Adventure Days?
Transportation is provided to and from a designated meeting point in Catford for those families who are unable to take and collect their children to the forest site. Adventure Day transportation is a variety of public transport and car. All travel costs are included in your termly enrolment fee.
How many children are in one group for Forest and Adventure Days?
We accept a maximum of 12 children on Adventure and Forest Days who are always supervised by a minimum of two adults.
What is your child to adult ratio?
Our child to adult ratio is 1:6 although this is generally higher in the forest environment due to the increased safeguarding requirements.
What if I need to contact my child urgently on the day or get a message to the staffing team?
Please telephone the main Office number, 07760 981 282, and our Administrator will contact either the Forest Team or the Adventure Day Team, as appropriate. Should there be no response, please leave a message. We advise also emailing the Office as this is monitored daily and frequently. There will be a WhatsApp group that parents are invited to join which can be used to communicate non-personal information such as lateness in arriving for drop off / collection. Anything of a non-urgent nature, should be emailed to the Office at info@edventurekids.co.uk
