Children are natural learners. We believe they thrive with a diverse range of experiences and opportunities that exercise their innate curiosity.

Edventure Kids provides full-day activities to support children’s wellbeing, encourage their engagement and self-motivation in learning, and offer the chance to explore and broaden their interests and abilities. Children learn to take ownership of their learning and develop a connection to the world around them. Childhood is not a homogenous experience, so education can’t be one either. We see children as individuals, unique in their interests and talents.

Swimming Lesson, Biggin Hill Memorial Library and Pool

Learning to swim is one of the most integral life skills for anyone. Not only does it teach invaluable life skills such as water safety, it also has a positive impact on our overall body health. It strengthens our muscles, improves our cardiovascular system and has been proven to contribute to the strengthening of the left and right sides of our brain. This is why this has become one of our regular adventures, taking place twice per term.

The children have a 20-30 minute swimming lesson with a regular instructor who, over time, really gets to know each child and their swimming capabilities which allows them to work with the child as an individual, even in a group session.

Children are grouped according to swimming stages, where possible, and unlike some swimming lessons, our group sizes are kept small to allow for effective learning, with the time spent waiting for a turn to participate considerably lower than some lessons elsewhere.

It is important to Edventure Kids to make use of and support community services and so, when not swimming, the children are encouraged to make use of the wonderful library housed within the same building as the swimming pool.

In the warmer months where possible, time is made to enjoy the outdoor playpark situated behind the leisure centre.

Horse Riding and Edventure Kids Allotment

This is another regular adventure in our schedule. The children have a horse riding lesson twice per term and visit the allotment four times over each term.

We have been visiting the same stables for a number of years now which has fostered a positive and familiar relationship. The children have a 20-30 minute riding lesson in group sizes no more than 4-5 children per group. Each visit builds on the last, incrementally developing their skills in the tenacious task of learning how to command, respect and work together with a horse.

Horse riding lessons are followed by a visit to the EK allotment plot based 30 minutes from the stables. Here, the children are guided by a green fingered facilitator in the planning, planting and maintaining of our bed. This activity has an array of important learning objectives such as:

When not riding, the children have the opportunity to watch and encourage their peers and help with stable and horse maintenance (there is a particular horse which loves to be brushed!).

  • Learn about seasons in relation to growing food and flowers
  • Learning about pest control which is kind to animals and the environment
  • Learning various gardening techniques and how to use tools effectively
  • Respecting nature and the sometimes fallible process of growing food
  • Working together as a community to achieve a shared objective
  • Having a sense of ownership and responsibility to how the plot is run
  • A sense of achievement and enjoyment from the fruits of their labour – the children often get to take home some home-grown produce such as potatoes and herbs. In the summer months, we all help make Mojito Mocktails!

Musicianship Session at The Conservatoire and Kite Flying, Blackheath

We are very excited to be returning to The Conservatoire in Blackheath for a Musicianship session.

This session is based on exploring the concepts of musical theory. The children will copy and recognise more complex rhythms, improvise their own musical patterns and explore core skills in rhythm, pitch and musical expression through songs, games and stories.

Following their session, the children will have their lunch al fresco on the beautiful open plains of Blackheath before making and flying their very own kites!
